What is engineering? |

The
purpose of the Challenge is
to encourage
Year 9 Design and Technology pupils to think about a career in
engineering at professional level and takes place in November of each year. |
|
Put
simply, it is using scientific knowledge for practical uses. Engineering
is divided into different branches, such as
civil, electrical, electronic, mechanical, aeronautical, marine and chemical
engineering.
Engineering
is not poorly paid, not dirty, not boring, not just for men,
not dangerous and not hard. |

Improve your performance in Key Skills by becoming an Engineer for a day and find out what chartered engineers do. Prizes and signed
Certificates are awarded to all members
of the winning, second and third teams at each Challenge venue . |

Chartered
Engineers design and manufacture just about everything - from the tallest
skyscrapers to the smallest computer chips, from cars to aircraft and
space shuttles, from miracle fabrics to artificial heart valves, from
tanks to ships, from giant bridges to roads and canals. Almost everything of any consequence in the modern world, on or under the earth, on or in the water, in the air or in space, was designed by and its construction and maintenance was supervised by a chartered engineer. |

Contact
the Engineering Team Challenge for information. There is no advance preparation for schools nor for the pupils - teachers need only transport pupils to the Challenge venues and take pupils back to their schools. And teachers have a day out and get a free lunch! |
